Saturday, April 8th, 2017. Our club has been invited to the annual International Festival, run by NMSU’s Office of International and Border Programs. This year it’ll be held in Pioneer Park in midtown, at 500 W. Las Cruces Avenue. It runs from 10 AM to 3 PM.
From the website, https://ibp.nmsu.edu/las-cruces-international-festival-2017/:
“The festival will include international foods, cultural displays with native art, textiles, artifacts, photographs, music, dancing and games. Participating international students will be dressed in their native fashions.”
Our members are already signing up. Consider joining us for the event, and joining Kiwanis!
Saturday, April 8th, 2017. Our club will be at the Volunteer Fair sponsored by the City of Las Cruces. The event is being held on the new Downtown Plaza, from 9 AM to 1 PM. We’ll be there, looking for volunteers – especially as new members, but also for those who can help out with our service projects.
Our members are signing up. Contact us, if you wish, at https://kiwanis-lascruces.org/contact-join/
April 7, 2017, 4-7 PM. Fish Fry at Good Samaritan Village. This was another successful fundraiser, at which we served over 120 patrons who bought tickets. Our clubs staffed the event, and the Key Club from Centennial High sold a wide range of desserts. The net take on tickets goes to our funds to help children. The event was held in the Creative Arts Room, in the Social Center of Good Samaritan Village.
April 1, 2017, Saturday. Club representatives will meet at the Deming Literacy Project, 2301 Tin Street. The meeting starts at 10 AM, giving time for those of us arriving from out of town. The Las Cruces group will leave at 8:30 AM; call Jim Pudlewski, 525-9478, if you’d like to join in and car-pool. We’ll stop at the Adobe Deli for lunch on the way back.
March 24, 2017, Friday. All club members, guests, and anyone wanting to learn about what Kiwanis accomplishes are invited. We meet at the Good Samaritan Village at 3011 Buena Vida Circle, a bit east of Telshor Blvd. near the hospital. Entrance is through the double doors marked Social Center; we meet in the Oasis Room on the right-hand side a bit down the hall going south. Breakfast begins at 7 AM and runs to 8 AM, so there’s time to get to work afterward. If you’d like to buy your breakfast there the cost is $7. Camaraderie is free.
March 18, 2017. Every year the Rod Runners Car Club of Las Cruces hosts a car show at the Field of Dreams. The event features family fun, themed raffle baskets, 50/50 drawings, engine/transmission raffle, automotive swap meet, food vendors, music and a great time.
Our Kiwanis Club will have a booth there. We’ll have more details on times and on what we’ll present at the booth, as the date approaches.
The Field of Dreams is at 2501 Tashiro Rd., just east of Motel Blvd. Tashiro Road is a few blocks north of Picacho Ave.
March 18, 2017. Las Cruces Mayor’s Top Teens Breakfast – unique to our city, it appears, and a tradition of many years. The city recognizes outstanding high-school students each year, students who demonstrate scholastic achievement, perform community service, are positive role models, and, in many cases, overcame a significant obstacle in their lives . Sponsors help with scholarship funds. We Kiwanians cook the breakfast; the Top Teens program keeps the profits to use for scholarships, too.
Location: Moose Lodge, 514 N. Main St., at the north end of the Downtown Mall.
Time: 8-11 AM. Setup begins at 7 AM. Cleanup will be done by noon.
