4-10 March, 2019: The club worked at the new homeless shelter, My Friend’s Place, downtown. We power-washed the concrete pad, striped the basketball key, and mounted the basketball backboard. We also striped a checkerboard in the far corner of the pad.

Saturday, June 15, 2019. We’re on again! Float your boat! Or watch others try to float any imaginable device. It’s a fun event for the community. Kiwanis took over Raft the Rio in 2016, with great success. See our webpages with photos from 2016 and 2018.
The idea is to float or paddle from La Llorona Park, the starting point, to the Calle del Norte bridge in Mesilla, for fun and/or to vie for prizes, including first to finish, best use of recycled materials, least likely to finish, and most spirited crew. There’s a theme, “Pirates of the Rio Grande” and there will be a prize for best fitting into the theme. Participants have run kayaks and canoes but most built their own rafts, many with humorous themes (think Vikings, turtles, dragonflies…).
Registration starts at 8 am; the launch is at 10 am.
Our entry form, including the rules, is ready; you can download it in Word format or as a PDF. There’s also an opportunity for sponsors, who will get a place on the event’s official poster; please call John Northcutt at 410 925 9126 or email him at email@example.com if you’re interested.
We look forward to another great time.
