Posted on 25 April 2019: Your one-stop shop for our great Raft the Rio event.
It all happens on Saturday, June 15, 2019. We’re on again! Float your boat! Or watch others try to float any imaginable device. It’s a fun event for the community. Float or paddle – a raft you can make or a kayak – from La Llorona Park, the starting point, to the Calle del Norte bridge in Mesilla, for fun and/or to vie for prizes, including first to finish, best use of recycled materials, least likely to finish, and most spirited crew. There’s a theme, “Pirates of the Rio Grande” and there will be a prize for best fitting into the theme. Participants have run kayaks and canoes but most built their own rafts, many with humorous themes (think Vikings, turtles, dragonflies…).
Registration starts at 8 am; the launch is at 10 am.

Wednesday, 17 April, 12 noon, at Good Samaritan Village. The whole club gets together for business and camaraderie. Join us if you’d like to see what Kiwanis does!

On Saturday, 5 members represented the Club at the Volunteer Fair on the downtown plaza. We handed out 3 membership applications, about 15 Raft the Rio applications and over 20 of our club brochures. Never hurts to get our name out in front of the public. We’ll see if we have some photos to share soon.
The Lenten Fish Fry on Friday, April 5th, was a success. Twelve Kiwanis members worked all or part of the event. Representatives of all 4 Key Clubs ran a successful dessert sale. We will know how much money we raised once Jim V and Grady get it all added up. We’re polling our members for photos we might post. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, here are photos from last year. Enjoy.
